Hybrid Cellular Automaton - Parabolic Thick Needle model for equiaxed dendritic solidification

چکیده

A hybrid Cellular Automaton (CA) - Parabolic Thick Needle (PTN) model is developed for the simulation of an equiaxed dendritic grain. It implemented by solving conservation equations with Finite Element (FE) method at two scales. At scale microstructure, branches are approximated a network PTN. The solute field computed in liquid using FE mesh minimum size smaller than diffusion length ahead dendrite tips, giving access to detailed description each tip growth velocity as well solutal interactions between branches. domain scale, volume averaged heat and transfers solved on coarser mesh. average volumetric fraction phases deduced from microstructure together microsegregation model. Because PTN themselves grow CA cells, transferred vertices polygon associated shape. Similarly, cells part mushy zone, which include containing network. Advantages new multiple CAPTN interaction long range transfer mass, role latent release solidification.

Equiaxed dendritic solidification in supercooled melts

The growth of equiaxed dendrites from a pure supercooled melt is examined. We propose modifications to the classical Ivantsov theory that allow for consideration of multiple interacting dendrites. The modified theory reveals the existence of a steady-state dendritic solidification mode in a frame of reference moving with the dendrite tip. This regime should be valid from the onset of nucleation...

Equiaxed Dendritic Solidification with Convection Part I. Multiscale/Multiphase Modeling

Equiaxed dendritic solidification in the presence of melt convection and solid-phase transport is investigated in a series of three articles. In part I, a multiphase model is developed to predict composition and structure evolution in an alloy solidifying with an equiaxed morphology. The model accounts for the transport phenomena occurring on the macroscopic (system) scale, as well as the grain...

We systematically investigate the e ect of blockage sites in a cellular automaton model for tra c ow. Di erent scheduling schemes for the blockage sites are considered. None of them returns a linear relationship between the fraction of \green" time and the throughput. We use this information for a fast implementation of a simulation of tra c in Dallas.

Glider Collisions in Hybrid Cellular Automaton Rules

Elementary cellular automaton (ECA) rules 9 and 74, members of Chua’s Bernoulli shift rules and Wolfram’s class 2, can generate a host of gliders and complicated glider collisions by introducing the hybrid mechanism. These gliders and collisions are more plentiful than those generated by ECA rule 110. This paper presents a discussion of the symbolic dynamics of the gliders in hybrid cellular au...

A cellular automaton model for freeway traffic

We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stopwaves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.
